🌊 Fun Fact Time: Lake George - Then vs. Now 🕰️ Bet you didn’t know THIS about downtown St. Cloud’s favorite lake: 1️⃣ It used to be WAY bigger — Over 50 acres of wild wetlands vegetated with wild rice and reeds back in the 1850s! 2️⃣ It was downsized on purpose — In the 1920s, crews filled it in to make it smaller but deeper. 3️⃣ Ice was big business — Early 1900s locals harvested ice blocks from the lake and shipped them across the region before refrigerators were cool. Literally. 4️⃣ They built a dam — To keep it from drying out in the summer. Smart thinking, 1880s St. Cloud. 5️⃣ Locals saved it (again) — In the 1990s, the community stepped up to restore and revive it.
