Option #1—PROHIBITION TOUR
It all begins at Milk & Honey Ciders in St. Joseph. Tour the farmhouse cidery & orchard (which focuses on using only apples from Stearns County); continue onto Bad Habit Brewing Company, where a “small town” gentleman pushed the envelope and has since opened this amazing brewery. Tour the taproom and see the behind the scenes of how brewing works; finish up at Anton’s Restaurant. Built in the 1920’s, it was a speakeasy during the prohibition. Even after the repeal of prohibition, this space became a haven for young people to meet & socialize. Today they are known for their giant popovers along with having one of the largest selections of Scotch in the state!
Option #2—ALL ABOUT THE GRANITE (3 Rock Quarries: Industry, Recreation, Entertainment)
Quarry Park & Nature Preserve is an unforgettable experience. It is the site of 2 swimming quarries, hiking trails, picnic areas, rock climbing and more. You will have the chance to see the Derrick Exhibit and the many gorgeous features of the park. Next, an American-based company will host attendees onsite while discussing how they’ve become the leading supplier of building materials – let Martin Marietta explain how the quarry is used to make aggregates products. Their quarry site was also host to the Merce Cunningham Dance Company 2008 performance of “Ocean” – on a specially constructed stage, 150-feet below ground level.
The final quarry on this tour is the home of the Waite Park Amphitheater. This 12-acre parcel, given by Martin Marietta, will be an amazing oasis with designs making use of trees, rock barrier and a large quarry east of the seating area.
Option #3––FROM ABANDONED RAILROAD COORIDOR TO A TRAIL RIDE
Fresh air and scenery await for individuals wanting to get outdoors and enjoy some physical activity. Hop on the Lake Wobegon Trail in Waite Park at River’s Edge Park. Showcased here is also the first one in the state of its kind, The Healthy Living Trail outdoor fitness court!
Follow the Lake Wobegon Trail for approximately 3 miles where St. Joseph awaits! This trailhead stop will have water available, complimentary, along with a healthy snack. Want to keep going? You can! Or you can stop to do some quick shopping or sit and relax at a shelter nearby.
*A full redevelopment discussion will be shared with the group*
Option #4–-BOOMING BUSINESS
St. Joseph’s historic downtown is an attractive place to be. There are many pedestrian-friendly amenities including mixed-use buildings, sidewalks, benches, art stores and restaurants. On September 17, 2018, the St. Joseph City Council adopted the 2018 Comprehensive Plan. This would be the guide the community would utilize to develop into the future. The downtown core is a big part of this plan and the focus of this tour!
Option #5–-ANNEXATION BUS TOUR
Orderly Annexation Agreements revisions were being considered for both Waite Park and St. Joseph in 2010. Attendees will take an excursion to these areas and find out the history as to why the Orderly Annexation Agreement was implemented officially in 2018.
Thursday Morning Golf
Augushire Golf Club is almost hidden from the hustle and bustle of the area – this 9-hole par 35 course includes tree-lined fairways and ponds that come into play on 6 holes. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
