As the landscape of events and venues continues to evolve with the pandemic, coming up with unique solutions has been forefront in our minds at Visit Greater St. Cloud. Thanks to new regulations in the State of Minnesota, outdoor venues are an opportunity to consider as you look to plan your next event. Greater St. Cloud has several outdoor areas including amphitheaters, parks, and more that will work for a variety of meeting and event needs.
Located in Downtown St. Cloud, The River’s Edge Convention Center features two different outdoor meeting areas. For a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River, planners can utilize the Beaver Island Trail Extension and the conjoining outdoor plaza area. It would be ideal for social hours or even smaller-scale vendor shows. On the west end of the building there are also a large parking lot adjacent to a parking ramp right in the center of downtown. This lot has hosted live music, food fairs, and more in the past. Plus, the 150,000 square feet of indoor space available at the convention center allows for backup-plans should an event be faced with inclement weather.
Perfect for smaller-scale events in an upscale environment, Rolling Ridge Wedding & Event Center – located in St. Joseph – is a beautiful option to consider for outdoor events. With outdoors spaces including the gardens, the courtyard patio, and simply the beautiful grounds in general, Rolling Ridge is a picture-perfect option for an outdoor event. Plus, an important feature here is the ability for the property to open up and flow freely from indoor spaces to outdoor spaces – especially in the case of bad weather. From the barn to the lounge and more, every space here is flexible, safe, and stunning.
The Ledge Amphitheater is a truly unique and flexible venue for outdoor meetings. Open in 2021, this one-of-a-kind amphitheater is carved out of former granite mining quarries and has room to seat up to 6,000 guests at full capacity. Perfect for entertainment-focused events, vendor shows, and more, The Ledge is a beautiful natural space to gather safely.
Area Golf Courses
Greater St. Cloud is home to several area golf courses, including Territory Golf Club, The St. Cloud Country Club, and more. Simply by the nature of a golf course, they make perfect settings for outdoor events. Whether it’s setting up on patio space or even planning a networking golf tournament, they are a great option to consider for taking advantage of the outdoors. And, like other properties, they also have the just-in-case indoor areas in case of rain, extreme heat, or more.
Situated in the beautiful hills of Kimball, Powder Ridge typically serves as a winter recreation area with skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and more. However, it is also a unique option for hosting outdoor events. The grounds are maintained beautifully through the year and make for a pretty backdrop for your outdoor event. Plus, the chalet – with seating for up to 340 under normal circumstances – is a unique and pretty place to convene indoors if needed.
The Municipal Athletic Complex (aka The MAC) is home to two sheets of ice, two baseball stadiums, and a public golf course. Unique uses of this space have included vendor shows, tasting events, and more in the past. The baseball fields allow for attendees to either be seated in the stands or on the fields themselves, depending what the format of the event is. It’s the perfect spot for larger groups to gather safely and have a great time!
Lake George is home to the well-known weekly summer music series called Summertime by George, during which the park is home to a live outdoor concert, food trucks, vendor stands, and more. With a little imagination, Lake George can be the perfect venue for just about any kind of larger outdoor event. Plus, with the backdrop of the lake and the Downtown St. Cloud skyline, the location is perfect for staying connected to the metro area.
What more fun place to gather for an event than at a local winery! Millner Heritage Winery, located in Kimball, is another area option for a great outdoor event. Their pavilion, which seats 250 comfortably, overlooks the vineyard for a unique backdrop to any event. Plus, the indoor dining area can seat up to 100 people as well in case of a weather emergency.
