About Herb Brooks National Hockey Center – St. Cloud State University

The Herb Brooks National Hockey Center  is a 6,000-seat hockey arena located on the south campus of St. Cloud State University.  The facility opened in December of 1989 and the main rink is named in honor of the late university President Brendan J. McDonald, who advocated the team’s move to Division I hockey.  In April of 2013, the facility was renamed in honor of former St. Cloud State University and U.S. Olympic coach Herb Brooks.  The facility is home to St. Cloud State University’s Huskies Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Division I teams and provides student recreation activities with St. Cloud State club hockey, intramural hockey, open skate and open hockey programs.
