January 2022: What’s Happening in Greater St. Cloud

The holidays are over, but that doesn’t mean the fun is! January is officially winter in Minnesota, and whether you’re into exploring snowy tundras or cozying up indoors, there’s plenty of events on the calendar this month to keep you busy. As always, you can view the full calendar here. 

Moonlight Ski

January 7

Join the Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota and the Stearns County Parks for a moonlight cross country skiing event at Quarry Park & Nature Preserve! Enjoy free parking, 4.2 miles of lighted cross country ski trails, bonfires throughout the park, snacks and hot drinks, prizes, and more. This will be a hiking event if the ski is not adequate. Ski rentals are available at Fitzharris and Revolution Cycle and Ski, pick up at the stores on the day of the event – first come first serve. Learn more here

St. Cloud Norsemen Hockey

January 7-8 & 28-29

The Norsemen are a Tier II Junior Hockey team and compete in the North American Hockey League NAHL. All home games are played at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud. Games are lively and pair well with great concessions, drinks, and comradery. Come cheer on the home team and watch some fun hockey action all season long! Learn more and get tickets

Hops & History: Bridal Fashion of the Last 120 Years

January 13

Seamstress, reenactor and vintage collector Jessica Cygan leads a discussion on the traditional, the wonderful and the weird of vintage bridal fashion. Cygan will talk about where our modern ideas about weddings came from, and answer questions like: Why do we wear white and when did that tradition begin? How did royal weddings influence our views of weddings? And so much more! The drinking of the beer starts at 5:30, and the program begins at 6, so bring some cash for a couple pints of delicious beer, and join in on an evening of historic fun! Learn more

America’s Ice Fishing Tournament

January 22

The Brainerd Jaycees are excited to present America’s Ice Fishing Tournament, scheduled for January 22, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Last year, the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza shifted their on-ice tournament to a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event had 4,700 registered participants across the state of Minnesota and raised $125,357.17 for local charities and non-profit organizations. With the success of last year’s tournament, the committee decided to organize a completely separate, new virtual ice fishing tournament. Learn more

Winter Chill at Riverside Park

January 22

Bundle up and enjoy free outdoor winter fun for the whole family at Riverside Park! Winter activities include sledding, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, arts and crafts, prizes and much more. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. Bring your own winter activity equipment from home (snowshoes, skis, sleds, etc.); Some skis and snowshoes will be available for use, while supplies last.
