Greater St. Cloud January Event Roundup

Happy New Year, and welcome to 2020 in Greater St. Cloud! We hope you had a great holiday season, and that you’re ready for some adventure and fun this month! Whether you’re the outdoorsy type into cross country skiing, ice fishing, snow tubing, or just being outside in the Minnesota winter or more into hunkering down and getting cozy with a play, concert, or movie, there are plenty of events to keep your calendar full! January 3: Moonlight Ski

Whether you’ve been cross country skiing for years or you’re new to the sport, this will be an evening of fun for all ages! Winter like a true Minnesotan, and join the Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota and the Stearns County Parks Department for a free evening of skiing, camaraderie, and food at the annual Moonlight Ski at Quarry Park and Nature Preserve. January 4: Michael Shynes at the Paramount

Michael Shynes is back in St. Cloud at the Paramount for his album release party! This show sold out last year, so get your tickets fast. Shynes will take the stage with his eight-piece band and storyteller-style live show that pairs folk music with high-energy pop and R&B. After an phenomenal year that included appearances on WCCO, Kare11, Fox9, and KSTP as well as becoming a platinum recording artist overseas and having a song he wrote picked up for an Explore Minnesota ad campaign, you are going to want to see this superstar live while you still can! January 10 – March 7: Lazer Light Tubing

Bring the family out to Powder Ridge to enjoy an evening of crazy fun! Go snow tubing with the lights off while lazers, strobe lights, and flashing lights cover the hill and DJ music keeps the energy going! Plus, there will be fire pits, concessions, beverages, free glow sticks, and a ton of fun! The fun happens on select Friday and Saturday evenings throughout January, February and March, so check the calendar to make sure you get the dates you want. Tickets must be pre-purchased online, and spots are limited so reserve your spot now! 

January 11 – 12: I.C.E. Fest 2020

RESCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 8 & 9
A true Minnesotan winter event, I.C.E. Fest is a free family friendly weekend that helps arise funds for hungry children! All of the action takes place on Green Prairie Fish Lake in Little Falls. Bring the family out to see the World Record attempt at the largest ice carousel, a truly unique feat. The day of outdoor fun will also include activities like speed skating, sleigh rides with Santa, nordic skiing, curling, spear fishing demos, igloo building, and much more! It is free to attend but there will be raffle tickets available for purchase for fabulous prizes. All funds raised will benefit the Flyer Pride Pack to feed hungry kids. January 12: St. Cloud Wedding Expo

The St. Cloud Wedding Expo has been Central Minnesota’s premier bridal show since 1989. With two shows a year, it is the place to visit for inspiration, ideas, and much more when it comes to planning the wedding of your dreams. Get to know area vendors that specialize in everything from photography to baked goods to honeymoons, attend the fashion show to check out all of the latest bridal fashions, and enter to win lots of prizes! January 17 & 18: SCSU Men’s Hockey vs. Duluth

This time of year, there is nothing more fun than cheering on the St. Cloud State Huskies as they hit the ice for a hockey match-up against the University of Duluth. Don your red and black and practice your cheers for a night out at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Even if hockey isn’t necessarily your thing, the energizing atmosphere of this beautiful hockey arena will have your adrenaline pumping. It’s a great outing with family and friends of all ages! January 18: St. Cloud Craft Beer Tour

Since 2011, the St. Cloud Craft Beer Tour has been pouring out the fun into Central Minnesota at the River’s Edge Convention Center. This is the perfect event for lovers of all things craft. General admission opens at 2pm and goes until 5pm, and VIP tickets will get you in an hour in advance at 1pm. Then you are free to sip as many samples as you can get your cups filled with from craft beverage vendors from all over the Midwest. You must be 21+ to attend, and there are designated driver tickets also available online here. 

January 20 – 31: Fabulous Armadillos: To The Nines

Central Minnesota’s favorite cover band The Fabulous Armadillos presents To the Nines: Songs from ’59, ’69, ’79, and ’89. Get ready to rock out to songs from four different decades by the artists and bands that defined each year. Each year will include fun videos and songs to highlight that year as well. As always, it’s sure to be a fabulous time! All shows will be at 7:30pm at the Pioneer Place, check here for date and tickets!

January 24 – February 17: Disney’s Enchanted Tales Film Series

Have you ever wished (upon a star) that you could relive the magic of Disney movies on the big screen? This January and February, Marcus Parkwood giving you your chance with the Disney’s Enchanted Tales series. Come see timeless classics including Aladdin, The Lion Kings, Sleeping Beauty and Pocahontas for only $6! The perfect outing for families, friends, and all ages, and a great way to introduce the little ones to the magic of cinema. January 25: Central Minnesota Ice Racing 2020

Loud motors, fast vehicles, and more – on ice! Central Minnesota Ice Racing, CMIR, is a grass roots ice racing organization offering race classes for UTV, Quad, Bike, and Cars. The January 25th race at Eddie’s on Grand Lake will include race times for youth bikes and quads, ATCs, Bikes, Quads, UTVs, and Cars. Registration begins at 7am and racing starts at 11am! Come early for practice and to grab a bite to eat at Eddie’s. Entrance is $5 per person, and more information on the race day schedule can be found here.

January 30 – February 1: VEX Robotics Tournament

VEX Robotics exists to create engaging, affordable, and powerful solutions that immerse students in STEM through the excitement of building and programming educational robotics kits. The state tournament, hosted by St. Cloud Technical & Community College at the River’s Edge Convention Center every year, includes teams from high schools, Boy Scout troops, and 4-H programs from around Minnesota. The is a three day event with Middle Schools and High School teams competing on January 30th and 31st and the Elementary Schools competing on February 1st. January 31 – February 9: Disney’s Newsies

Based on the real-life story of the Newsboy Strike of 1899, this show stopping musical tells the story of a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. Newsies brings to stage an explosion of song and dance with an exhilarating jolt of energy, sure to be and exciting experience for the audience that you do not want to miss! Presented by GREAT Theatre and showing only for two weekends, get your tickets to Newsies now!

February 1: Ice Day on Lake Julia

Have some winter fun on Lake Julia in Clear Lake! It’s the 3rd Annual Ice Day on the Chain, Saturday February 1st starting at noon. Bring the family out for a fishing tournament, skating, games, grills and more. A great way to spend a Minnesota winter day!
