We might be in the dead of winter here in Central Minnesota, but that doesn’t mean there’s any shortage of fun events taking place in February. From theater performances to robots, and from hunting and fishing to dueling pianos, there is some kind of show for everyone taking place in Greater St. Cloud this month. Were you a tinker-er when you were younger? Or does your little one love learning about robots, electronics, and engineering? The VEX Robotics competition at the River’s Edge Convention Center brings the brightest young minds from all over Minnesota to compete and share what they know about robotics and engineering. This is a world-qualifying event with participants from middle school to college all taking part. Prepare to be impressed by the ingenuity of the younger generation, and inspired by their teamwork. The story you love, the music you can’t help but sing along to – all on a local stage. Bring the family out to see The Little Mermaid at the Paramount Theatre downtown St. Cloud. This is sure to be a magical tale brought to life by the talented actors of Great Theatre Company. Shows are on weekends February 1-3, and February 8-10. This is the premiere event for anyone interested in camping, fishing, hunting, or spending time in the great outdoors of Central Minnesota. Based on the award-winning novel by Mark Haddon, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time introduces us to Christpher Boon, a mathematically gifted boy of fifteen with Asperger’s syndrome. After this lovable character faces wrongful accusations for the death of his neighbor’s dog, we uncover some dark truths about what really happened to the dog in the night-time. Produced with Great Theatre and St. Cloud State University’s theatre department, shows run February 15th – 17th, and February 22nd – 24th at the SCSU Performing Arts Center.
