Greater St. Cloud August Event Roundup

The Dog Days of Summer are making their way into Central Minnesota, and with them they bring a continuous flow of great events to cap off the season with. The Minnesota Senior Games is here for 2019 and back again in 2020, so now’s your chance to check it out and see if you’d like to register for next year! Disc golfers will love to take part in the DBR Bag Tag Challenge at Powder Ridge. Rodeo enthusiasts can party it up at the Clearwater Rodeo. July 29 – August 4: Benton County Fair

107th Annual Benton County Fair is July 30 – August 4, 2019 in Sauk Rapids, MN. The Fair includes animals, games, rides, food, shows, shopping and more fun for the whole family! Don’t miss grandstand shows like the demolition derby and motocross, and beer garden stage performances from the HoneyBadgers, IV Play, 32 Below, and more! Entrance into the fair is free, but you may have to pay for parking. This is great fun for the whole family and a chance to learn more about the local and regional farming community! August 1 – 4: Minnesota Senior Games

MN Senior Games is an athletic competition for ages 50+ coming to St. Cloud, August 1-4. Registration is close, but attendance to cheer on the athletes at over 20 different events is welcome! Plus, if you’d like to get a full Senior Games experience, you may attend the Minnesota Senior Games Athlete Village Social on Saturday, 8/3 from 11-3pm at the Sauk Rapids Rice Middle School. There will be food trucks, games, photo ops, music, and more! Come early to watch the track & field events starting at 9am and stay for lunch and fun! Learn more about the games here. 

August 8: Downtown St. Cloud Art Crawl

Crawl the streets of Downtown St. Cloud for the biggest Art Crawl event of the year. Local art, live music and spoken word are just a few of the many intriguing and impressive attractions that will fill Downtown venues, streets and sidewalks. August 8 – 11: Minnesota Bluegrass Festival

The 40th Annual August Bluegrass Music Festival is here! Headliners include Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, with appearances from Monroe Crossing, the Cay Hess Band, and more. The Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival is held each year at El Rancho Mañana Campground in Richmond. The naturally shaded concert seating area and a beautiful main stage facility make the site one of the most beautiful in the bluegrass and outdoor music scene. August 9, 16, 23: Friday Night Flicks

St. Cloud Park and Recreation and Capital One are excited to announce this summer’s Friday Night Flicks series! Rain or shine, grab your family, friends and a blanket and head over to Whitney Sports Complex to enjoy a summer night under the stars! The movie will be held at Whitney Memorial Park on Field C-3 unless it’s raining, then it will move into the Whitney Recreation Center. August 9th is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, August 16th is The Goonies, and August 23rd is The Incredibles 2! Get updates and more info here

August 10: DBR Bag Tag Challenge

Calling disc golfers of all skill levels! Now is your chance to have some fun and experience competitive play at the Disc Beyond Recreation Bag Tag Challenge! The temporary course will be constructed at Powder Ridge and include 18 holes. There is pre-registration available or you are welcome to register the day of the event. The first 100 people to register will receive a players pack full of goodies, and there will be divisions for recreational, intermediate, and advanced play – with trophies for the top 3 in each division! August 10: ATS Rock your Sole 5K

When we say Rock your Sole, we mean it! Bring the whole family out for a fun run at Quarry Park and Nature Preserve brought to you by the Bernick’s Family Fitness Series in partnership with the St. Cloud YMCA, 104.7 KCLD, the St. Cloud Times and El-Jay Plumbing and Heating Services. A kid’s 1k fun run plus 2 mile and 5k run and walk options are available, and the run begins at 8:45. Cool down afterwards with light refreshments from Bernick’s and Coborn’s. August 16 – 18: Clearwater Rodeo

The Silver Bullet Saddle Club is proud to present their 40th Annual Clearwater Rodeo! Bring the family out for events including bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, roping, barrel racing, and more. On Saturday before the rodeo begins there will be a BBQ dinner for $9 per meal plus live music from the band HoneyBadgers following the rodeo. August 18: The Receders on the Patio

Join The Receders on the Pearl Lake Lodge patio, named one of the best patios in the state by Twin Cities Live! The St. Cloud area rock and roll band made up of four guys who have earned their receding hairlines have each been playing music for nearly 25 years and have the talent to show for it. As a group, The Receders have merged their skills into a tight musical experience that audiences appreciate for their variety of songs and undeniable dance appeal. August 21 – 24: Common Roots Festival

Four days, 200+ artists, 11 venues and 13 stages. The Common Roots Festival features the grassroots talents of local, independent performing artists. Also included is a bazaar to connect musicians (young and old), music-related businesses and nonprofits, local visual and physical artists, and live music. A $10 button is available for purchase and gets you into all the shows. August 24: Louie Anderson at the Paramount

Comedian and Central Minnesota favorite Louie Anderson is back at the paramount this summer for one show only! The three-time Emmy Award winner and one of the country’s most recognized and beloved comics will be right here in St. Cloud for a night of laughter, fun, and joy. Anderson, a St. Paul native, often shares stories of growing up with ten siblings in Minnesota – stories that even made it into his animated series Life with Louie in 1995. August 28: The Final Summertime by George

While it’s hard to believe that the final act of the Summertime By George lineup is taking stage, it’s sure to be a night to remember! Join your 10,000 closest friends to see Stone Road and the Fabulous Armadillos take the stage for one last hoo-rah. Come early to save your spot with a blanket and/or lounge chair – this is sure to be a packed show.
