Celebrate Spring in Greater St. Cloud

Spring has sprung in Central Minnesota! The temps are warming, the sun is shining more, and we are so ready to welcome in a new season. Ring in spring with these fun ideas around Greater St. Cloud.

Earth Day

Earth Day is on April 22nd, but you can celebrate the fundamentals of Earth Day all spring long. The point of Earth Day, as you know, is to raise awareness for the importance of environmental sustainability. We have some tips for traveling green that can help make sure your visit here is as sustainable as possible. For example, bring your own water bottle, plan to travel by bike, and try shopping local. Check out our blog for even more ideas of how to travel green. There is also the Earth Day Run that takes place on April 19-20. This 1k/5k/half marathon does as much as possible to make the event green, including virtual swag bags, prominent recycling at the grounds, and they even compost the drink cups from the water stations along the route right on the spot! Check out the Wellness Expo at the River’s Edge Convention Center on Friday and Saturday morning to be a part of the experience.

Events

Spring in St. Cloud is the perfect time to get out and about in the community and enjoy local events! Bring the kiddos and family out to Hemker Zoo for opening day on May 1! Learn more about how maple syrup is created, and enjoy hot maple syrup sundaes at the Maple Syrup Festival at St. Johns’ University on April 6. Head out to Granite City Motor Park and watch the Opening Night Races on April 21! Support the local art scene in St. Cloud and enjoy Footloose presented by Great Theater!

Celebrate spring by spending it in the great outdoors! Grab your boots and head out for a hike at Quarry Park & Nature Preserve. Bring the helmet and rent a bike at River’s Edge Park to take for a spin on the Lake Wobegon Trail. Or check out one of these other great trails for hiking, biking and more. Welcome in lake season by packing up the fishing poles and heading out for fishing open weekend May 10-11, the Mississippi River is a great bass fishery! Grow Green

Spring is synonymous with new growth, and fortunately there are many ways to grow green in Greater St. Cloud. Visit a local greenhouse or garden center to shop for already assembled baskets and plants, or to search for the perfect arrangement to make your yard shine all summer long.  Also, while the blooms aren’t quite at peak beauty yet, a stroll through Munsinger and Clemens Gardens is the perfect way to spend an afternoon and check out some early season bulbs.

Spring Flavors 

If there’s one thing about spring that makes a Minnesotan truly happy, its the chance to dine on a patio again. Tis the season, people! Find the perfect patio to soak up the sun (and some great cuisine) in Greater St. Cloud. Or shop for the best flavors of the season at a local farmers market. Plus, April 7 is National Beer Day, so sip on some seasonal flavors at these area breweries. And since spring is all about bright and sweet, enjoy the best dessert at one of these area shops to put a little spring in your step. Spring Holidays

Spring is home to many different holidays for all people, from honoring mom to religious celebrations. Ramadan kicked off on March 10, and Eid al-Fitr is on April 10. Celebrate the end of the fast at these area halal restaurants – perfect for a feast!  Easter is on March 31, and there are a ton of Easter events in Greater St. Cloud to get your hop on.
